Following on from my review of the LG IPS234V, I recently decided to invest in all-new gear for my home office, with a brand new PC, desk and a dual monitor LG 24EA53VQ setup.
With my LG IPS234V still working flawlessly at the office over a year down the line, I knew I could trust LG’s selection of reasonably cheap IPS monitors. This time around, I decided to opt for the LG 24EA53VQ in a dual monitor configuration on my brand new Intel i7 Windows 8.1 PC.
The LG 24EA53VQ is essentially exactly the same as the IPS234V when it comes to specifications, the only differences being that it is a newer model, the screen size is 24″ rather than 23″ and the stand is slightly different aesthetically.
The picture quality is, as you would expect, gorgeous and I cannot fault it at all. As said, I have two of these monitors in my home office and with both coming to just shy of £270, I can’t think of a better value way of maximising your screen real estate with such amazing visual clarity.
Of course, the monitor will need calibrating with your setup, and make sure to explore the built-in menu system to get everything properly configured. I had to turn the “energy power saving” mode off so that the screen would stop dimming and retain a constant brightness – essential with precise graphics work.
Unfortunately my only gripe from the LG IPS234V remains on the LG 24EA53VQ – the wobbly stand. Again, if you have a sturdy desk this won’t be a problem, but when it comes to shutting off the monitors via the power button, this can lead to a slight wobble.
I’m now using a triple monitor VESA mount sturdily attached to my desk so I can move, tilt and rotate each monitor independently without having to worry about the flimsy stand.
All-in-all, I’m more than happy. Aesthetically the monitors look great on my desk, and I would certainly recommend this monitor to a budget conscious buyer.
